Event Photography – Masquerading at the Royal Marines Museum Ball

Masquerading at the Royal Marines Museum – Event Photography, Hampshire

A few weeks ago I was invited down to the Royal Marines Museum, Portsmouth to cover the annual Masquerade Ball. It was an amazing event, full of glitz and stunning gowns. The masksdefinitely added something to the occasion altough it made it rather difficult to find the guests once I’d photographed them.

What really brought the evening and the entire event to life though was the presence of several “old soldiers” in 19th Century Royal Marines’ uniforms. You can see a few of them in the video slideshow above. The bugler’s and drummer’s call to dinner brought about a sense of what the building might have been like in days gone by.

As a venue, the Royal Marines Museum is fantastic. This was the first event I’d covered there but not the first time I’d photographed there. I used the museum as the setting for most of the images in my Help for Heroes calendar. If you’ve never been there before it’s definitely worth visiting for a day out with the family.
